Denys Dragan
Denys Dragan, born in western Ukraine, is definitely one of the most promising pianists of his generation. Denys is praised particularly for his interpretations of Liszt, Chopin and Rachmaninov. He won his first piano competition at the age of 7. At the age of 10 he entered the Solomija Krusheljnitckaya School for gifted children (Lviv, Ukraine), in the class of Prof. Tetyana Aleksandrova.
In 2013 Denys was 3rd Prize winner at the Chopin Youth Piano Competition in Warsaw (Poland), followed by 1st Prizes at the “Stankovich Piano Competition” (Kiev, Ukraine), and the “Chamber Music Competition Starchenko” as well as the “Na rodine Prokofieva Competition” in Donetsk (Ukraine). In the year 2014 he won two 1st Prizes at the competition “Accords of Chortyzja” (Zaporozhiye, Ukraine) and in 2015 another 1st Prize in Prague. Denys graduated at the age of 17 and moved to Vienna (Austria) to study with Prof. Tamara Atschba.
In addition to his studies and funded by the Esperus Art Fund, Denys continued to successfully take part in competitions. He won 1st Prize for the best Prokofiev performance at the "Great Composers Competition" and 1st Prize for the best Rachmaninov. Organized by the Cziffra Foundation (Vienna, Austria), he played a brilliant recital in 2018. In particular he was highly praised by the critics for his interpretation of Liszt's Dante Sonata. A concert tour in western Ukraine followed, performing the Rachmaninov Concerto No. 2.
In the year 2019 he won the 1st Prize at the “Agustín Aponte International Music Competition” (Tenerife, Spain). The same year he also won the bronze medal at the “Franz Liszt International Piano Competition” in Budapest (Hungary). He is invited on a regular basis by the Cziffra Foundation to perform recitals. Thanks to his highly captivating energy, and his enormous technical and musical potential, each of his performances will be a unique experience.
